Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge Debuts as Thinnest Premium Phone Yet – But at a Cost

With the Galaxy S25 Edge, Samsung ventures a brave, but also risky step: the smartphone is very thin at 5.8 millimeters, but the design demands its toll – because users have to compromise especially in the battery life.

Ultra -Lach, but not without compromises

Samsung presented the Galaxy S25 Edge today, an extremely slim premium smartphone with only 5.8 millimeters of height and a weight of 163 grams. The device has a 6.7-inch display and is housed in a titanium housing. The camera equipment includes a 200 megapixel main sensor and a 12-megapixel ultra-wake angle camera with autofocus. The built-in Snapdragon 8 elite processor ensures the necessary performance and enables progressive AI functions.

This includes improved image editing tools and context -related assistance functions that Samsung summarizes under the name “Galaxy Ai 2.0”. The device comes in the basic version with 256 GB of memory and regularly costs 1249 euros. If you access until May 29, you will receive the variant with 512 GB at this price, which will then be available for 1369 euros.

Compromise on battery and camera

The Galaxy S25 Edge has two significant restrictions: On the one hand, Samsung waives a telephoto lens camera, on the other hand, the built-in battery with 3900 mAh is the smallest in the entire S25 series-compared to 4000 mAh in the standard S25 and 4900 mAh in the S25 plus. According to Samsung, these compromises were necessary in order to be able to implement the extremely thin housing.

Future -proof through updates

Samsung promises for seven years of software updates for the S25 Edge. The smartphone supports Qi2-Ready wireless charging and has an IP68 certification for dust and water protection. However, the charging speed is wired to 25 watts and 15 watts limited wirelessly – significantly less than the ultra model, which can come up with 45 watts. Experts suspect that this restriction is also due to the thin design because faster charging would lead to stronger heat development.

The Galaxy S25 Edge will be available in the colors Titanium Silver, Titanium Jetblack and Titanium Icyblue. Samsung is particularly aimed at users who are looking for a light premium smartphone with a large display, but are ready to compromise on the battery life. With the S25 Edge, Samsung serves a niche in the premium segment that has hardly been served in recent years. While most manufacturers rely on thicker housings with larger batteries, Samsung takes a different path here and offers an alternative for design -oriented users.
