Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 & Galaxy Z Flip 6 To Come Without Exynos, Snapdragon Will Take Over

Samsung will again rely on a single-track strategy when it comes to the hardware base for the next generation of its new smartphones with foldable displays, which is expected in the second week of July. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6 will each use Qualcomm CPUs.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in use worldwide

According to a report from the Korean portal The Elec, Samsung wants to equip its new foldable smartphones with the latest version of Qualcomm’s high-end Snapdragon 8 series processors. Unlike the current top smartphones in the Galaxy S series, no Exynos chips will be used here.

Instead, according to the report from South Korea, which is based on sources close to the electronics giant, both the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will each contain a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. At 3.36 gigahertz, the top SoC offers the highest performance currently available in Android smartphones and also offers extensive AI support.

Dual chip strategy does not pay off (yet)

According to the report, the reason for the decision to use the same Qualcomm chips for both models of the Samsung Galaxy Z series worldwide is not because the current top chip from Samsung’s in-house chip division is not powerful enough. Instead, the decision not to use the Samsung Exynos 2400 in the sixth generation Galaxy Z series is simply due to cost reasons, it is said.

Samsung is said to be shying away from the costs of the increased development effort for using two different platforms in different regions of the world in the case of the Galaxy Z series. So instead of installing Samsung’s own Exynos 2400 in this country and elsewhere in Europe, as with the Galaxy 24, Qualcomm chips are being used worldwide.

The background is supposedly that the Galaxy Z series has not yet been sold in similarly gigantic numbers as the Galaxy S series. If sales were higher, Samsung would reportedly adjust its strategy accordingly, according to The Elec report.
