Samsung has filed a patent for an expandable smartphone with a square form factor
According to some fresh pieces of information, the South Korean conglomerate Samsung is working on an innovative new smartphone design. Reportedly, the company has filed a patent for a square-shaped device featuring an extendable display panel.
Currently, the foldable smartphone market is led by Samsung. The latest offerings from the company include the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Galaxy Z Flip 5. It now appears like the company is working on a fresh new concept; however, the device features an extending screen instead of a flexible one. Some of the problems with foldable phones might even be resolved by such an inventive design.
An extended phone’s screen would resemble that of a regular phone, making it more user-friendly and long-lasting. Compared to a foldable smartphone, a regular smartphone is more durable. This could be contested, though, by a new Samsung patent that uses a different form of flexible display. The extending panel on this phone is simply a tiny portion that can be dragged out for more screen space, as opposed to the standard foldable phone that has a tall, flexible panel.
The new design would give the display greater flexibility and durability by emphasizing parallel alignment along with special connections and support components. One thing to notice here is that the above-mentioned information refers to a patent. Currently, there is no information on whether the company will work on this concept in the future or not. However, it is an indication of what the upcoming smartphones from the company with flexible screens could look like.
