Samsung made world’s smallest DRAM chip

The North Korean giant Samsung Electronics Ltd announced on Wednesday that the company has successfully developed world’s smallest DRAM chip which provides a limpid edge and technical leadership over competitors such as Toshiba, the company also witnessed record operating profit in 2017 powered by their semiconductor business.

The chip technology Samsung has developed is considered 2^nd generation, 10-nanometer class, and 8-gigabit DRAM chips, the chips said to have improved performance in data processing and improved energy efficiency. The chip will be used in various devices including high-speed graphics cards, mobile devices and premium data-crunching electronics such as cloud computing centers according to Samsung in a statement which Reuters reported.

The company is also planning a shift from existing DRAM production to 10-nanometer chips by 2018. This means, the North Korean giant is shifting from older DRAM technology to newer nano-chips technology during the next year.

According to the President of Memory Business, Samsung electronics, Gyoyoung Jin, “Samsung is aggressively pursuing production expansion in its memory and chip business which would generate strong market demand as well.”

It’s worth mentioning that Samsung has appointed new managers in its key business units including semiconductors in October. The new managers in the top management team seem to be playing well in their positions. Samsung said, the company is not currently looking to expand its chip shipments; rather they are investing in maintaining long-term market position and creating market demand.

Samsung Smart Speakers

Apart from chip business, Samsung is also betting in smart speakers market, the company has recently announced to launch its Bixby 2.0 Home Speakers during the first half of 2018. Despite having much criticism on Bixby, the company has revamped Bixby 2.0 to which could position the product better in the market.

However, it would be a tough competition for Samsung with already established products in the market like; Google Home, Amazon Echo and Apple’s Siri.
