Samsung might be working on its own raytracing

The South Korean conglomerate has collaborated with several big tech companies on different fronts. One such example is a recent partnership between Samsung, AMD, and Qualcomm regarding the FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution). The new partnership came to light just a few days ago. Reportedly, the FSR technology will be introduced to Samsung smartphones. Besides this, the company has been in close association with AMD for the past few years to introduce raytracing features to Exynos chips. However, it seems like the company is working on its version of raytracing for the upcoming Exynos chips.

According to the information, two new technologies are being tested and developed at SAIT (Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology). Notably, a team is working on Neural Ray Reconstruction and Neural Super Sampling. Daily Korea reports that these technologies will arrive on Exynos chips after 2025. Well, if this information is correct, then these gaming technologies won’t be part of Samsung’s 3nm chip that could be used in the Galaxy S25 series.

As compared to the raytracing offered by AMD and Nvidia that applies to a few areas of a game’s frame that reflect the light, Samsung’s technology is considered much better and improved since it provides raytracing to all areas of a scene. Besides this, raytracing requires a great deal of processing power.

Samsung uses an AI-powered super-sampling technique called Neural Super Sampling, as well as an NPU for computations related to raytracing. It is capable of rendering frames at a lower resolution and upgrading them to a higher resolution to lighten the load on the chipset, much like AMD’s FSR and Nvidia’s DLSS. Antialiasing is then used to soften an object’s edges within a video frame. The company has not officially confirmed anything regarding this, so this information should be taken with caution.
