Samsung might establish its first test line for semiconductor chips in Japan

The US-China conflict is affecting different companies on a global scale. Due to the imposed restrictions and bans companies are forced to diversify their options be it material acquisition or others. To avoid the bad circumstances, Samsung is reportedly going to set up a new semiconductor chip test line in Japan. Samsung plans to use this chip test line to expand its advanced packaging business and strengthen ties with Japanese semiconductor equipment and materials manufacturers.

The largest manufacturer of memory chips in the world, Samsung, would establish a unique chip testing line in Japan. According to sources, Japan has also approved limiting exports of 23 different types of chip-making tools, supporting US efforts to stop China from developing its advanced chip-making capabilities.

No detail about when Samsung intends to install its first test line in Japan exists

Well, Samsung has a research and development center in Kanagawa Prefecture, next to Tokyo. Reportedly, the company will establish the new test line in the same location just to benefit from the familiarity of the area. Furthermore, Japan is a suitable place for industries. Since the labor is cheap and the region houses leading chip equipment and materials makers.

One thing to bear in mind here is that this information is not public as yet. So, nothing can’t be said about when Samsung will establish the new facility in Japan. Besides this, some rough estimates regarding the investment do exist. As per these estimates, the company is expected to invest around $75 million. The plan is obviously in its initial stages, so nothing certain could be said yet. The company is also considering some other options. We will come to know about this in the future.
