Samsung plans to utilize 100% recycled plastic in its smartphones

The South Korean tech company Samsung is well-known for its efforts in the development of a sustainable environment. It has utilizing eco-friendly materials across various products. Last year, the company utilized eco-friendly materials in its smartphones as well as home appliances. in 2023, the company utilized eco-friendly material with its latest flagship smartphone series i.e., Galaxy S23.

Since a recent piece of information declares that from next year onwards the company will focus on using 100% recycled plastic. The conglomerate states that it wants to expand the horizon of the utility of recycled plastic and other eco-friendly materials across its products. The company is making all the possible efforts the reduction of environmental impacts.
Previously, in the S22 series, the company utilized recycled material that was obtained from ocean-bound plastic as well as 80% recycled PET. In addition to the S22 series, the above-mentioned materials have also been utilized in Galaxy S23 and other high-end smartphones. The company intends to utilize 100% recycled materials in its smartphones by 2050.
The Executive VP and head of Samsung MX, Park Sung-sun, mentions that the vast portfolio of Samsung products utilizes recycled and eco-friendly materials. It might be a small contribution but it will have significant impacts on the Earth’s environment.
Reportedly, the Galaxy S23 series use recycled material for almost 12 internal components. On the other hand, the Galaxy S22 series used recycled material for 6 components. The tech company Samsung claims that it can aid in reducing 15 tons of wasted fishing nets from the oceans by the end of FY23. In addition to this, the head of the Samsung MX division stated that the company is working in close association with other brands to increase the recycling of rare materials like cobalt and gold.
