Samsung receives AWS global certification for water resource management

Samsung, a pioneer in semiconductor chip technology, has gained another accolade for its efforts to make the world a safer place. According to the corporation, its Hwaseong campus has received the highest possible level of certification for water resource management—Platinum—from the Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS).

Given this recent achievement, Samsung Electronics has become the first ever company to receive several awards for its water resource management capacities. In addition to this, it is for the first time that a Korean company has been certified Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) Platinum Certification.

Samsung received AWS certification after being assessed on 100 indicators

Samsung has acquired two global certifications for sustainable water management. The certificate from AWS is the second global certificate awarded to Samsung for its efforts. The first recognition was received from the highest Carbon Trust award. “As the fourth site in Korea to obtain AWS certification and the first in the nation to attain Platinum status, they are one of the first adopters of the AWS Standard in Korea and join 250 AWS-certified sites globally,” said Adrian Sym, CEO of Alliance for Water Stewardship.

Dooguen Song, Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics’ Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Center, commented on the new certification after receiving it: “The AWS certification reflects Samsung’s continuous efforts to manage water resources, like communication and cooperation with multiple stakeholders.”

The AWS standard was evaluated on 100 different parameters. A company is awarded three levels of AWS certification based on the points it scores. The three levels of AWS certification are Core, Gold, or Platinum. In addition to this, the South Korean tech giant has released a new animated ESG video to mark the celebration of World Water Day 2023.
