Samsung Remains At The Top Of Global Semiconductor Market

Samsung has maintained its legacy of being the number one in the memory chip semiconductor market, the South Korean giant has topped the global smartphone memory chip (DRAM) market again. According to the details, in the first half of 2020, the company has successfully maintained its number one position in terms of shipments as well as overall revenue from the business. Its revenue share was more than double as compared to the competitor ranks second.

According to a new report from market analysis firm Strategy Analytics, Samsung Semiconductor’s revenue share for H1 2020 was 49%, while SK Hynix and US-based firm Micron Technologies’ revenue shares were 24% and 20%, respectively. In terms of shipments, the South Korean tech giant’s market share was 54%.

In the global smartphone NAND flash chip market, Samsung’s revenue share remained at 43% in the first half of the year 2020. Kioxia Holdings Corp. and SK Hynix’s revenue shares were 22% and 17%, respectively. Moreover, the combined revenue in the smartphone memory chip segment was $19.2 billion during H1 2020. In Q2 2020 alone, the revenue stood at $9.7 billion, which is 3% higher than Q2 2019.

Due to the upcoming festive season, higher smartphone sales could lead to higher revenue for Samsung in both DRAM and NAND flash segments. However, on the other hand, the US embargo against Huawei is expected to have a negative impact on memory chip makers like Samsung as the company is the big supplier to Chinese smartphone makers.
