Samsung upgrades its chip manufacturing in order to better satisfy customer demand

The South Korean conglomerate Samsung is facing turmoil and challenges in the semiconductor business. However, the company hopes that things will improve by the second half of this year. Recently, the company introduced some changes to its chip factory in an effort to improve efficiency and cater to the market demand.

More specifically, the company made changes to the construction schedule of the PH2 cleanroom that will be constructed at its Pyeongtaek Plant 4, P4. Besides this, the company has reportedly stopped the construction of the new Pyeongtaek Plant 5 line. Concerning the semiconductors, Pyeongtaek is one of the main manufacturing hubs. It is the same location where the company manufactures memory chips besides carrying out its foundry operations. Currently, three plants on Pyeongtaek are operational whereas P4 and P5 are under construction.

The company has stopped the work on its P5 plant. It has shifted its focus on the construction of the PH2 cleanroom at P4. Reportedly, it will be used specifically for manufacturing contract chips. The company is introducing the desired changes in an effort to attract more clients. The P4 line will also observe the construction of the Ph3 cleanroom. It will be dedicated for manufacturing DRAM and other memory products.

The company is introducing the desired changes in anticipation of increased demand for the above-mentioned products in the future. Previously, the company claimed that the construction of P5 line was stopped because of the inspections. According to market analysts, Samsung has taken this step in response to sluggish market. The recent changes in the market have severely impacted Samsung. For this reason, the company has announced that the chip division employees will not receive any bonuses this year.
