Samsung’s Odyssey Line could be surpassed by LG’s new curved OLED gaming monitor

LG is about to introduce its new curved UltraGear gaming monitor. Thus, taking on Samsung in a traditional battle of display items. The new monitor by LG is huge. It is a 45-inch ultrawide monitor. It has an aspect ratio of 21:9 and a resolution of 1440p (3,440 x 1,440 pixels).  This new product can be regarded as a direct response of LG to the Odyssey line. In contrast to Samsung, the new monitor by LG is lacking in certain perspectives. The Odyssey G9 is slightly bigger with 49 inches screen. It has reportedly an aspect ratio of 32:9 and a resolution of 5,120 x 1440 pixels. Despite the bigger display and aspect ratio, the new UltraGear monitor has some specifications that certainly make it a better choice.

Features of UltraGear

UltraGear has an OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) display. In contrast, G9 is a QLED (Quantum Dot Light Emitting Diode). This indicates that the display screen is the main difference in terms of better image quality, which is observed as darker blacks and brighter whites. In addition to this, reduced power consumption, as well as faster response times, are also sported. These features are highly required for high-level gaming. It indicates the distinction between winning or losing certain titles.

The recent move by LG take it a step further since this is the first OLED monitor to have a 240Hz refresh rate. It is reported to have a .03ms response time. UltraGear is reported to have an 800R curvature which makes it round in appearance compared to G9. Where G9 has a curvature of around 1000R. Thus, gamers enjoy the greater immersion. Since the monitors cover the majority of peripheral vision and also reduce strain on the eyes.

Some other noticeable features are as follows:

  • anti-glare protection
  • compatibility with Nvidia G-Sync for added performance
  • support for HDR10 to ensure vivid colors

The pre-orders of the new product are expected to start by December 12. Where the shipping of the product will start by December 28th. The sign-up page on LG’s website will notify the users when pre-orders begin.
