Scammers targeted 130 Twitter accounts in Wednesday’s breach: Report

The administration of the social media platform Twitter has shared more details about the hacking attack that allowed the attackers to tweet a Bitcoin spam message from the high profile Twitter accounts.

The social media giant, after the investigation, revealed that as many 130 high profile twitter accounts were targeted by the hackers in some way as part of the incident. “The attackers were able to take control of the profiles and then posted several tweets from those accounts,” the company said.

A million dollars question throughout has been whether the attackers had access to the Direct Messages (DMs) for the twitter accounts we know they compromised several high profile accounts, or for once that we don’t know about.

“We are continuing to assess whether the non-public data related to these accounts was compromised, and will provide updates if we determine that occurred,” the company, in a statement, said.

Also, the social media users can reset the passwords of their Twitter accounts again, for the time being, exporting your Twitter data is still disabled.

“We have also been taking aggressive steps to secure our systems while our investigations are ongoing. We’re still in the process of assessing longer-term steps that we may take and will share more details as soon as we can,” the company said.
