The so-called Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST) camera is the largest digital camera ever built. “The installation of the LSST camera on the telescope is a triumph for science and engineering,” said Harriet Kung, provisional director of the Office of Science in the US Ministry of Energy. “We look forward to the unique pictures that will deliver this camera.” Vera C. Together with her colleague Kent Ford, Rubin observed that stars on the edge of galaxies moved at almost the same speed as those in the center. This discovery contradicted the applicable physical theories, according to which objects further away should rotate more slowly due to the decreasing gravitational force.

The discrepancy in the measured values ​​led to the conclusion that an invisible mass, now known as a dark matter that holds galaxies together. Based on this groundbreaking research, the ruby ​​telescope is to further decipher the puzzles of dark matter and dark energy. State -of -the -art technology, including a highly sensitive camera system, an innovative mirror design and a powerful computer infrastructure, make it one of the most advanced observatories in the world.

Tests follow

Every few nights, the telescope will scan the entire sky and create a kind of ultra -high -resolution time -lapse film from the universe. Each single recording is so detailed that your presentation would need 400 UHD television screens. The installation of the LSST camera was a technical challenge.

After months of testing, it was mounted on the Simonyi telescope in March 2025 with a special lifting device. “This task required meticulous planning and precise teamwork,” emphasized Freddy Muñoz, head of the mechanical department of the observatory. In the coming weeks, the camera systems will be connected and tested. This year the ruby ​​telescope is to deliver the first scientific pictures of the night sky.
