Selfie GIFs might soon be available in Google Messages

The December Pixel Feature Drop brought several new features to Pixel phones, including Night Shift Timelapse for other Pixel devices and Video Boost for the Pixel 8 Pro. According to some recent pieces of information, there is another new feature that was unannounced by Google back then. This feature reportedly enables users to create selfie GIFs.

A selfie GIF feature in the current version of Google Messages is hidden, according to AssembleDebug on TheSpAndroid. The new feature is activated by long-pressing the camera attachment icon found next to the text field. To activate it, users must enable a flag. A new UI consisting of a circular camera frame appears as soon as the feature is activated.

In addition to this, users can send a GIF to the recipient by using the front or back cameras that can record a four-second video. It is accompanied by a Restart button to ensure that the user can capture the best shot. The shared images indicate that the new UI is a bit messed up. According to AssembleDebug, it was due to a bug that he attributed to custom ROM.

Currently, there are no details on when the selfie GIF feature will be public. A feature that was teased in the December Pixel Feature Drop made its way onto the original Pixel Watch this month.
