Just recently, Qualcomm debuted the new chipset for midrange smartphones. The new chipset is built on the 4nm process technology. The new chipset, i.e., the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2, is said to cater to smartphones that are not meant for the Gen 8 chips, or, in simple words, low-budget devices.
In contrast to other members of the Snapdragon 7 series, the CPU of the current 7s is less powerful. Furthermore, its ISP is not that good. So, it showcases an overall low position. In accordance with some previous rumors, the upcoming Redmi Note 13 series might arrive with the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset. They are set to debut later this month.
When it comes to the name of the chip, it is a bit confusing. Since we had no first-gen 7s or even a second-generation Snapdragon 7. There is no information on what the ‘s’ means. It might be a label for the slashed specs. The chipset features four CPU cores at 2.4 GHz for performance and four at 1.95 GHz for efficiency.
There are no clear details about the Adreno GPU; however, it does have support for FHD+ resolution at 144Hz. The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 consists of the FastConnect 6900, and the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 features the FastConnect 6700, which is obviously a downgrade. It offers a peak DL speed of just 2.9 GBPS and Bluetooth 5.2 with support for low-energy audio.
Its Spectra ISP can support a device with a single 200 MP camera and 4K video capture at 30 fps. Some other features include LPDRR5 memory at 3200 MHz, USB-C 3.1, and Quick Charge 4+. As of now, the company has not shared a release schedule that could indicate the arrival of devices with the new chipset.
