Snapdragon X-powered Windows laptops may someday compete with Apple MacBooks

Snapdragon X is going to be the new brand for next-generation laptops and PC processors. Reportedly, new processors for Windows laptops and PCs are in worked on by Qualcomm. These new processors are based on ARM. The company will unveil the new processors in competition with Apple’s M-series processors used in MacBooks and Macs.

The next-gen Windows laptops will be powered by the Snapdragon X

Previously, Qualcomm used the Snapdragon 8CX/7C branding for the processors; however, it is now replaced by the new branding, Snapdragon X. According to the company, the new processors are set to revolutionize upcoming PCs. Reportedly, the new chips will feature Nuvia CPU cores. These CPU cores will offer similar performance as Apple’s M-series processors powering the iMacs, Mac Minis, Mac Pros, and MacBooks.

The new processor for laptops and PCs might be unveiled during the Snapdragon Summit 2023. During this event, the company will unveil the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. It was anticipated last year that Qualcomm would debut chips powered by Nuvia CPU cores. However, it didn’t happen. The new laptops powered by the Snapdragon X chips could debut as early as next year. In the past, Samsung debuted Galaxy Book laptops powered by Snapdragon chips. The company might also use the upcoming Qualcomm X-series processors.

The significance of Nuvia

A few years ago, Nuvia was acquired by Qualcomm. The company acquired it to step into the PC and Server industries. Basically, Nuvia is a semiconductor chip company. It was built by former employees of AMD, Apple, Broadcom, and Google. More than 20 chips have been produced by them together. In addition to this, Nuvia CEO Gerard Williams III developed multiple Apple A and M series chips.

The future Snapdragon X series CPUs from Qualcomm are anticipated to provide Apple M2 levels of efficiency and efficacy, delivering MacBook-like productivity and battery life to the Windows laptop arena and igniting the market.
