Social media sexual harassment campaign #Metoo is gaining popularity

‘Me too’ is the new trending post on all social media platforms be it Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. The campaign is launched with an aim to show support to those suffering from sexual harassment.

This campaign started a day after Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein was accused of rape and sexual assault. It was decided by the board of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences to remove him after he was bashed on media for claims of sexual abuse and physical assault.

He was fired from Weinstein Company, the movie and television studio he co-founded. His story was revealed this October on The New York Times and The New Yorker magazine. At least 40 actresses and models have suffered physical abuse from Weinstein.

Now as a reaction to him and all those people who feel sexually abusing women is their right, women all around the world have started this campaign called ‘Me Too’. It is to encourage women to speak up to the men who torture them.

American actress Alyssa Milano started this and from then on people all around have spread it and talked about the harassment they have endured.

It’s not common that people who face such issues, publically discuss their experience and trauma. They try to hide it but this campaign is to give power to those who feel afraid to talk. It is a platform for them to voice their deepest fears and talk about the harassment they have faced.
