Sony is Preparing Hefty Stock For PlayStation VR2
Sony expects strong demand for the recently announced PlayStation VR2. Therefore – unlike the market launch of the PlayStation 5 – two million copies should be available right at the launch of the VR2 and thus certainly enough devices for the first few days.
The PlayStation VR2 will be released in early 2023. According to a report, Sony is now meticulously preparing for a successful start and is investing a lot of money in the availability in the first few days, reports Bloomberg, Bloomberg writes that Sony wants to produce two million devices by March 2023. Sources close to the company are cited.
Mass production started in September. So far everything is running smoothly in the supply chain. After launch, production could ramp up or down depending on demand. First of all, Sony wants to offer a well-stocked warehouse, even if it will be expensive.
The launch of the PlayStation VR2 is expected to coincide with the resolution of supply chain bottlenecks that have hampered the availability of the PlayStation 5 since its launch in late 2020. That would give Sony enough stocks of headsets and consoles for a big marketing boost, the report said.
Two million PSVR 2 Enough Or Too Much?
Bloomberg interprets Sony’s goals as a “big bet” and “ambitious”, pointing to the economic crisis and the fact that PlayStation VR2 is more or less just an expensive accessory offer: Sony’s first VR headset took around eight months to reach one million sales achieve, although the economic outlook was better in 2016 and more than 50 million PS4 consoles were in circulation at the end of 2016.
According to the latest official figures from May 2022, the PlayStation 5 has sold 20 million units so far.
