Sony launches its first official controller to play on iPhone

Sony announces the launch of its first gamepad for the iPhone, the Backbone One. Developed in collaboration with the specialist brand Backbone, this controller is inspired by the design of the DualSense and allows you to easily play your Playstation games on your iPhone via the PS Remote Play application.

While the PS5 has just received a new update that integrates the display of games in 1440p, Sony is announcing the launch of the game next Thursday, July 28, 2022. Backbone One – Playstation Edition, an officially licensed mobile gamepad for iPhone users. It’s nothing more or less than a Playstation stamped version of the excellent controller Backbone One for iPhone.

Of course, the design has been revised and corrected to get closer to the latest Playstation products, starting with the PS5 and especially the DualSense. “The colours, materials and finishes are inspired by the design of the PS5 console’s DualSense wireless controller, from the transparent effect of the keys to the characteristic floating appearance,” we continued.

Note that we also find on this special version the characteristic keys Cross, Circle, Triangle and Square from Playstation instead of the A, B, X and Y buttons from the Xbox. You will have understood, this controller has been sold! $99.99 (the price in euros is not yet known) allows you to play your PS5 and PS4 games on your iPhone (all models combined) via the PS Remote Play application, whether you are away from home or comfortably installed on your bed a few meters from the living room.

Indeed, keep in mind that with the PS Remote Play app, you can also: play remotely via WiFi or via 4G/5Gprovided you have a flow rate of at least 15Mbps to enjoy the best experience. Of course, the Backbone One – Playstation Edition controller works great with games from the App Store or other game streaming services that support controllers like Xbox Game Pass or Stadia. A dedicated app for a customized “Playstation experience”

In addition, users can download the Backbone App mobile application to enjoy a “bespoke Playstation experience”, including a section dedicated to Playstation news and updates. As our colleagues from The Verge who were able to try the controller tell us, we find this ergonomics with small onions, with comfortable handles, a logical and practical layout of the buttons, good responsiveness of the triggers and noticeable functionalities such as charging by Lightning and a 3.5mm headphone audio port.
According to Sony, the Backbone One – Playstation Edition controller will be available in France, Canada, the United States, and many other countries.
