Sony PS VR2 Headset Is Coming On February 22 For $549.99

Sony has finally given concrete details on the launch of its new PS VR2 headset. The virtual reality headset for use with the PlayStation 5 is scheduled to be launched towards the end of February 2023 and will then cost just $549.99.

As Sony announced today, the PS VR2 headset will be available from February 22, 2023, at a price of $549.99. In addition to the actual PS VR2 headset, the scope of delivery also includes two Sense controllers and stereo headphones. For a charging station, customers have to pay another $49.99, whereby the headset can also be charged without the charging dock via the USB Type-C connection.

Sony wants to offer its new VR headset for pre-order from November 15, 2022, and it should then also be available in Europe via the official PlayStation Store. The pre-order phase for a number of the first new games for the PS VR2 is also scheduled to start in November, including Horizon Call of the Mountain.

The new PS VR2 headset brings a significant upgrade over the first-generation model. This includes an improved OLED display, a 110-degree wide field of view, and support for a 4K HDR. The maximum refresh rate is 120 Hertz, which allows for a smoother display. There are four cameras in the headset, which is why no external cameras are required to track the movements of the user.

The new PS VR2 Sense Controllers offer adaptive triggers and haptic feedback and recognize finger touches. According to Sony, it has primarily invested in comfort, so the new model should be more comfortable to wear. A new outlet is intended to facilitate ventilation and the lenses can be adjusted using a rotary wheel.

Sony initially wants to offer 11 new games for use with the PS VR2:

  • The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR
  • Cities VR Enhanced
  • Crossfire: Sierra Squad
  • The Light Brigade
  • Cosmonious High
  • Hello Neighbor Search & Rescue
  • Jurassic World Aftermath Collection
  • Pistol Whip VR
  • Zenith: The Last City
  • After the Fall
  • tentacular
