On June 25th, Nintendo will launch a completely redesigned but faithful version of Star Fox 64 exclusively for the Switch 2. The rail shooter expands the old campaign with a prologue mission, plus brand new multiplayer battles.
Nintendo is releasing a remake of the action game Star Fox 64 exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 on June 25th. Fans can rest assured that the title, simply called Star Fox, retains the level design of the 1997 original. However, developers have completely renewed the technical basis. The story is also known and familiar to many: players control the pilot Fox McCloud. The goal is to save the Lylat system from the villain Andross. Users receive support from well-known team members Peppy Hare, Slippy Toad and Falco Lombardi. The gameplay of the rail shooter remains essentially untouched. Players maneuver the Arwing spaceship or the Landmaster tank through predetermined routes and avoid obstacles. The new edition of course offers detailed character models and high-resolution textures. There is also an orchestral soundtrack and full voice acting, which accompany the action on the screen.

New cinematic cutscenes further expand the plot. Among other things, developers added a prologue mission. The mission sheds more light on the backstory surrounding the protagonist’s father. The game also includes other modes:
The remake uses the functions of the new generation of consoles. The Joy-Con 2 controllers enable precise control via movement. This is particularly beneficial for the gunner in cooperative play. Another innovation is the integration of the GameChat system of the Nintendo Switch 2. The developers use camera functions to support social interactions during multiplayer games. Users can also apply augmented reality filters in the chats. This means they appear as an animated avatar of a Star Fox character during communication. The players’ facial expressions are transferred to the digital models in real time.
