Microsoft just made the new Surface Laptop Go 2 official. The American group renews its cheapest mass-market notebook with an 11th generation Intel chip from the Core series and also introduces a new green color variant. These are the dates and prices. The Surface Laptop Go 2 will also be officially launched in Germany on June 7, 2022, with the entry price for the cheapest variant with economical memory equipment being 669 euros. If you want a device that really makes sense, you have to pay 100 euros more, with the price range rising to 869 euros – at least for the end-user versions.
Technically, the platform changes mainly with the Surface Laptop Go2, because, as expected, the more modern Intel Core i5-1135G7 is now used, which with its two cores can achieve a turbo clock of up to 4.2 gigahertz. The chip is combined with four, eight, or, in the business versions, 16 gigabytes of RAM. It is welcome that Microsoft has now installed a 128 GB SSD instead of the small 64 GB eMMC memory of the previous model, even in the base model with only four GB of RAM. Optionally, an SSD up to 256 GB is possible, whereby the SSD can be replaced by expert personnel.
Other than that, the device remains practically the same, so it again offers a 12.4-inch PixelSense display with 1536×1024 pixels in 3:2 format with multi-touch support. The keyboard is still not backlit, which will certainly remain a critical weak point for many customers. Otherwise, as before, there’s a 720p webcam, a USB Type-A and a Type-C port, and the Surface Connect port.
The battery life is slightly up to 13.5 hours, although the capacity of the battery has probably not changed. Microsoft says it is launching a spare parts program for the Surface Laptop Go 2, where customers can replace the display and the entire top part of the device, the feet from the bottom of the case, the keyboard, and the SSD. itself in the future – Microsoft wants its components to drive themselves out. However, it is still unclear when sales will start and what the costs will be.
The Surface Laptop Go 2’s battery should also be replaceable, but Microsoft will either handle this task itself or refer it to an authorized partner. Pre-orders for the Surface Laptop Go 2 begin today, with shipments starting June 7, 2022, as noted above. However, individual dealers may already have the devices in stock and may deliver earlier. By the way, Microsoft calls the new color variant in green “sage”.
