Tesla Model Y catches fire at the intersection, driver escapes through the window

While research has long shown that electric cars catch fire much less often than combustion engines or hybrid cars, fires are still a nightmare for many in this vehicle category – including this incident involving a Tesla Model Y.

The reason for many people’s fears is the fact that the lithium-ion batteries in electric cars can cause some pretty serious fires. However, it is extremely rare for such fires to actually get out of hand. With this in mind, in anticipation of tomorrow’s Towel Day, don’t panic. In any case, there was an incident in Vancouver, Canada, last Friday that was certainly more than a shocking moment.

Because an almost brand new Tesla Model Y initially stopped at an intersection and caught fire moments later. A passerby filmed the incident with his smartphone. You can see that the vehicle first smokes, then catches fire and is finally extinguished by the on-site fire brigade.

This is an incident that is more common than you might think, at least with ICE vehicles. if Electrek what was actually dramatic was that owner Jamil Jutha reported that his Tesla stopped and the doors could no longer be opened. Because Jutha told the arriving fire department when they wanted to know if there was anyone else in the vehicle: “No. I had to smash the window to get out of the car.

I kicked the window. Everything stopped. The electricity didn’t work. “The door wouldn’t open. The windows wouldn’t go down, so I thought I had to get the fuck out of this car, so I stepped on it.”

Mechanical grip exists

However, his spectacular escape may have something to do with the fact that he hasn’t owned the car long or hasn’t spent enough time with it. Because Teslas do have an easily accessible manual door handle, which you can use to go outside even when energy is lost. It’s not known what caused the fire itself, nor whether the battery itself caught fire – but it doesn’t necessarily look like it in the video.
