Tesla Orders placed in 2021 will not be delivered until 2023!

With the shortage of electronic components and difficulties on the production line, delivery times for the new 2021 Model X are reaching new heights. It’s simple, it’s not uncommon for a customer to wait two years before getting their vehicle back.

January 2021, Tesla officially launched the revised and corrected version of the Model X, its flagship SUV. At the end of the year, the manufacturer had finally decided to deliver the units reserved by the first customers. Unfortunately, cars are delivered piece by piece and the manufacturer quickly realized that this was obvious by drastically extending delivery times.

In some configurations, it is not uncommon to have to wait until March 2023, at least. According to our colleagues at the specialist site Teslarati, these calendar changes have affected customers throughout 2021. Today, some buyers have seen the window change again. For an order placed in early 2021, the estimated delivery has changed from July 2022 to December 2022/March 2023which for some means a waiting period of two years!

Nearly two years of waiting for the new Model X

In February 2022, Tesla had already postponed delivery of the new Model X due to problems on the production line. “We haven’t made it to the new Model X production ramp and we still haven’t quite caught up,” Elon Musk said at the time. As of this writing, it’s clear that Tesla still hasn’t been able to cut the wait time.

According to the manufacturer, the difficulties in obtaining parts and components from its various suppliers remain the main cause of these delays. In addition, it took longer than expected to make the production changes needed to build these new models. In 2021, the American brand delivered more than 900,000 Model 3 and Model Y, against just 25,000 Model S and Model X, numbers that testify to the difficulties encountered by the manufacturer with these two specific models† Recently, Elon Musk responded to the topic, stating that he was willing to interrupt orders on models with endless delivery times, such as the Model Y Long Range, Model X Long Range or the Model S Long Range.
