The “Bento Button” is part of the latest ChromeOS 120 upgrade

Recently, the tech giant Google rolled out the ChromeOS 120 update. The new update is accompanied by several improvements. Furthermore, new features for virtual desk management are part of the new update. With the new update, the support for several legacy media formats has begun to disappear.

One of the main updates of ChromeOS 120 is the addition of the ‘Bento Button.’ It is a new shelf button that streamlines the management of virtual desks. With the help of this button, virtual desks can be conveniently visualized, switched, created, and ordered. Therefore, it improves multitasking efficiency for users who rely on multiple virtual desks.

With the new update, support for the MPEG4 Part 2 video codec and AVI container is ending. However, these features can be temporarily enabled by users by using the chrome://flags/#cros-legacy-media-formats link. One thing to notice here is that this alternative option is only available until the ChromeOS 125 update rolls out.

Some other notable updates of ChromeOS 120 include customization of keyboard and mouse that enables users to adjust the scroll speed of the mouse and customize right-click, home, end, and page up in the keyboard settings. Users can now resize PiP windows using a pinch gesture, which is quite helpful when multitasking. The emoji and GIF picker are now updated with a dynamic color palette. With the new updates, detailed information about installed apps, like version, storage usage, and source of installation, can now be viewed.

Authentication events such as login, logout, lock, and unlock can now be enabled as part of ChromeOS’s Extended Detection and Response (XDR) feature, which offers insights into the security posture of the device. The admin console now has updated policies for PowerManagementIdleSettings, ScreenLockDelays, LidCloseAction, and more. Overall, device management and security will improve with the new policies.
