The cheapest ad-free Netflix subscription is hidden, and the new ad tier is still incompatible with Apple TV.

A new ad-based plan was proposed by Netflix last month. Through this latest tier, the target was to achieve more subscribers by providing cost-friendly deals. The feature was hidden on the actual website, and the company is forcing its users to buy ad-free tiers.

Netflix is trying to push its subscribers toward more expensive plans.

According to Technoblog, Netflix is hiding its simple advertising plans from its users when they get Netflix subscriptions. Subscriptions containing ads, standard and premium packages are only visible on the website.

That hidden strategy doesn’t mean that Netflix is completely getting rid of these plans. The ad-tiers are available to some users with some hidden links, and for others, they’re visible in the list of available subscriptions. We can say that the company is trying to run some kind of optional testing in spite of getting users to purchase expensive tiers.

According to Technoblog, Netflix is giving its customers the option of choosing between two subscriptions, one with fewer benefits and one with a higher cost.

The dark pattern, as predicted by Technoblog, is about preventing users from getting less interesting or beneficial options instead of convincing them to buy more costly plans.

In the United States, the most basic plan with advertisements costs $6.99 per month, while the same plan with additional features costs around $9.99 per month. The standard plan subscription costs $15.49, while the lower plan subscription costs $8.50. Subscriptions to the premium plan cost $19.99, convincing users to get a more expensive subscription ($13 in comparison to an expensive one).

Netflix’s ad-tier plan is incompatible with Apple TV.

Netflix announced its latest ad-tier plan with the caveat that it is incompatible with Apple TV. The situation is the same even after a month has passed since the new feature was released. Apple TV users need to buy an expensive subscription to get rid of ads.

Netflix hasn’t presented any reasons for the problem. According to the current situation, it appears that Apple users will be forced to purchase more expensive subscriptions if they want to continue using it on Apple TV.

Basic ad-tier Netflix is currently being rolled out in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and South Korea.
