The December 2023 Pixel Feature Drop upgrade allows all apps to resize to larger screens

The tech giant Google has been putting in all its efforts to optimize the UI of apps for foldable screens and tablets. The company began its efforts with the Android 12L but unfortunately, there are not enough apps optimized for big screens. The same issue was presented to Samsung, which deployed a forceable method to fit the apps on the big screens. However, this feature was missing from Google’s Pixel Fold; however, it is changing now.

Google rolls out the December 2023 Pixel Feature Drop update

The tech giant Google has rolled out the December 2023 Pixel Feature Drop update for Pixel devices, including wearables, tablets, smartphones, and foldables. Mishaal Rahman has found that the Pixel Fold and the Pixel Tablet have the capability to modify the default aspect ratio of individual apps. This enables users to run apps in full-screen mode on foldable phones and tablets, even if the apps do not support these modes or landscape mode. Notably, the company has not mentioned the new feature in its changelog but it is part of the recent Pixel update. According to Mishaal, this feature could become available on all Android devices beginning with Android 15. It has the potential to become one of the core features that companies will have the option to disable.

Reportedly, the new update has some other notable features. Some of them are the Video Boost for Pixel 8 series, Gemini Nano (Generative AI), and Night Sight Timelapse. Interestingly, the Gemini Nano can operate without an internet connection. It can generate smart replies by summarizing the recorded audio. With a new USB mode when linked to a computer, the updated software also makes it possible to utilize Pixel phones and tablets as webcams. The new update has added more controls to the Call Screen.

Furthermore, the Pixel devices are getting the Repair Mode. Pixel Tablet is set to receive the Clear Calling feature and a built-in document scanner that remove undesirable elements from documents. Now, Google Password Manager offers passkey creation and can identify which accounts support passkeys. The Hold For Me and Direct My Call functions now function in the UK, while the Recorder app now supports 28 languages.
