The high-end models of the iPhone 16 series will feature tetraprism telephoto lens

Just recently, it was unveiled that the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max could feature the tetraprism telephoto lens. This information was in line with the claims made by Ming-Chi Kuo back in September. Furthermore, the same information has been shared recently by The Elec, along with some additional details.

A tetraprism telephoto camera is a feature of the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Its folded glass construction, which employs a tetraprism design to reflect light repeatedly, increases optical zoom to up to 5x, versus 3x on the iPhone 14 Pro Max. The recent iPhone 15 Pro features the same tetraprism telephoto camera. possibly it was not upgraded due to spatial constraints given the fact that components don’t fit within the smaller 6.1” device.

To elaborate further, the tetraprism camera’s required parts take up a lot more space than the telephoto camera that is currently on the iPhone 15 Pro. From this perspective, we might observe a slight size increase with the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max measuring roughly 6.3″ and 6.9″, respectively. In this way, the devices could better fit into the upgraded tetraprism telephoto camera.

According to an internal document, the design of the camera module of the iPhone 16 Pro bears a striking resemblance to the module used in the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The region that contains the components of tetraprism is immediately identifiable. It is crucial to keep in mind that the information presented here is pre-production data and might not accurately represent the hardware found on finished mass-production devices. There could be adjustments at any time, as the iPhone 16 Pro is still several months away.
