The Moon Will Get Its Own 4G Network in 2019

Moon is soon to get it’s very own mobile phone network. Ever heard about technological leaps? If not, then for sure this is one!

The German scientists are expecting to establish a 4G network on the Moon, in order to support the arrival of two lunar travellers planned for next year.

With technology booming and advancing on a per day basis, the earth has transformed into a digital place to reside in. It is common to get fascinated these days when a new technology is introduced on earth. But the fascination gets multiplied many times when the technology is launched on the moon.

Telecommunication firms like Nokia and Vodafone Germany, along with a German car company—Audi and Germany based scientists and engineers of PTScientists, would be partnering for the making of a device that would offer astronauts 4G internet, as per the group announcement. The device would only be weighing about 2.2 pounds or 1 kilogram.

The speeds at which the astronauts could surf the internet might not be as fast as they could through Wi-Fi or as fast as the web surfing works on Earth. However, the mobile network on Moon would allow the astronauts to remain in touch over wider distances.

As per the reports of LiveScience, the device would allow the two rovers already present on the lunar surface to directly communicate with Earth during a trip on the Moon.

The group has the intentions of launching the device on the Moon in 2019 aboard a SpaceX Falcon9 rocket.

Hannes Ametsreiter—Chief Executive of the Vodafone, Germany in a statement said this project incorporates a drastic-creative kind of approach to the development of the mobile network infrastructure.

This is not the first time that the internet would be coming to Moon. Back in 2014, the MIT engineers took high-speed internet to the lunar surface, connected to Earth through laser.
