The Pixel 4 series by Google have received regular updates for a period of three years. After this defined period, it is now officially deemed as end-of-life (EOL) for the Pixel 4 series. Lastly, as of October 2022, the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL received the final software update. Whereas Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL also received Android 13 as the last chief Android update for the device.
As of November 2022, Google rolled out the Android security patches for Pixel devices. However, for the following month’s roster, the Pixel 4 series were not included. This recent move marks that devices will no longer receive monthly security updates. Concerning the EOL devices, Google, however, releases one final update. The final update is based on bug fixes as well as some improvements. It is followed by a few months after the last security update. Given this trend by Google, we are expecting something similar for the Pixel 4 series. But when it will arrive, we are not sure about it.
However, this may appear like an end, but LineageOS as well as other similar projects are expected to keep the Pixel 4 series alive. Further, the users of the Pixel 4 series will be able to try the latest versions of Android on the device. Additionally, you could also try out the option of custom ROMs and give your devices a new life.
