The Quest headset’s Chromecast feature is being removed by Meta

With the Quest VR headsets from Meta, users can mirror content from these devices’ internal displays to other devices that have Chromecast installed. However, this feature might be removed in the future.

According to some recent pieces of information, a new software update has removed this feature from Quest VR headsets. Notably, the company rolled out firmware version 60.0 last month. This update removes support for Chromecast from Quest VR headsets. The new changes are particularly pronounced for users of Quest 3 headsets. Several users took to Reddit to report the issue. According to users, the option to find Chromecast devices is not visible on the casting menu on the headset.

Well, this doesn’t appear to be a software bug or a hardware issue. Additionally, an official document states that Meta Quest doesn’t completely support Chromecast. According to Meta, you must cast the stream to your computer or smartphone, then mirror the screen of that device to a Chromecast device if you wish to mirror the audio or video from your Quest headsets to an external display (like a Chromecast device).

The option to replicate the feed on Chromecast devices is said only to impact primary accounts; other accounts on the headset are left unaffected. Currently, there are no details about this change. According to some, the company is trying to improve the feature since it has the chance of crashing and freezing when users try to cast feed from the VR headset to Chromecast devices.
