The reasons why Galaxy S23 doesn’t have a Satellite Connectivity feature

Previously, it was rumored that Samsung will soon introduce the feature of satellite connectivity with its high-end smartphones. However, no such indications have been observed with the Galaxy S23’s launch despite the fact that the smartphone is fueled by Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor that supports the satellite connectivity feature.

The CEO of Samsung MX division, TM Roh, mentioned to CNET in an interview that Samsung will for sure introduce the feature to its smartphones and devices when there is the right time and the right infrastructure ready. He added that this feature is not everything that could be attributed to be the only solution or to ensure peace of mind among consumers.

When it comes to Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, it has the capacity to communicate with satellite systems for emergency texts. Just recently, the tech firm Samsung partnered with Iridium. Through this partnership, the tech firm will gain access to the weather-resilient L-band spectrum of Iridium via a constellation of satellites. The feature is expected to release by the second half of 2023. However, whether it will be available across mobile devices or not is certain yet.

As per the claim by Qualcomm, not every Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 have the capacity to support satellite connectivity feature. The devices need to have specialized hardware in order to gain access to satellite connectivity. The latest smartphone by Samsung i.e., Galaxy S23 could have this capacity or could not. Well, we know now that the feature requires both hardware as well as software specialization. In addition to this, as of now, the tech company Google has not added support for this feature yet to Android. So, we can anticipate that it could arrive with Android 14. For these reasons, Galaxy S23 could not feature satellite connectivity.

It seems like the Galaxy S23 series won’t be able to contest with iPhone 14 series in this perspective. However, TM Roh of Samsung claimed that the company will work on introducing several other meaningful aspects for users including better sensors, improved security, as well as a wider 5G coverage.
