The South Korean tech giant Samsung missed the MWC Shanghai 2023

MCW Shanghai is a trade show organized every year by GSMA. It is the same corporation that arranges the MWC trade shows in Las Vegas and Barcelona. The MWC brand is well-known for the Barcelona event. Whereas the event in China also witnesses the active involvement of various stakeholders in the tech industry. the South Korean tech giant Samsung s participating in the Shanghai event dating back to 2017. However, the giant missed the event this year.

Reportedly, over 300 companies participated in the MWC Shanghai 2023 event. Notably, a few big companies like Qualcomm, Ericsson, and Samsung were not part of it. The event was organized at the Shanghai International Expo Centre in China. The absence of these tech giants raised questions and concerns. Since the beginning, Samsung showed no sign of interest in the event. Although Qualcomm and Ericsson booked their stands but later canceled their participation plans. Furthermore, Qualcomm and Ericsson were included in the list of major corporate sponsors of the event. Additionally, the officials from the two companies attended the event and shared their views.

Samsung’s absence might be attributed to tensions between South Korea and China

Well, there is no information regarding the absence of Samsung from the MWC Shanghai 2023. However, the possible reason could be the rising tensions between South Korea and China. Although the relationship between the two states was not good in the past, now it has turned out to be the worst.

China has been condemned by the South Korean government for its diplomatic impoliteness. Unnamed Chinese officials had already said that South Korean President Yoon Suk-Yeol’s remarks regarding Taiwan “amounted to a verbal intervention.” The US-China trade conflict has impacted the tech supply chain between the two established Asian tech companies.

Besides this, the company has not shown outstanding performance and enthusiasm for the MWC Barcelona 2023 event. The company did book eight stands. However, it had nothing notable to be featured. Where several other companies introduced their latest products at the event. Having said this, it might be possible that there is no relation between Samsung missing the event due to the tensions between the two states. Perhaps, it could be.

On the other hand, the company is preparing for the Unpacked event. The company is expected to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 foldable, Galaxy Tab S9 series flagship tablets, and Galaxy Watch 6 series Wear OS smartwatches at the end of this month. The company will organize the big Galaxy Unpacked event in South Korea on July 27.
