The Threads countdown indicates that the EU launch will take place on December 14th

Finally, after much anticipation and conjecture, Threads is making its European debut. On December 14, Meta’s social networking app is probably going to be released in the EU, just in time for people to share pictures of their Christmas meals or anything. Although there hasn’t been an official announcement from Mark Zuckerberg and company, Instagram users in the EU are seeing a countdown clock. Within the software, these users can locate a ticket promoting the impending debut of the platform that resembles Twitter.

According to The Verge, the timer can also be found on the Threads website, but only for users who click from IP addresses located in the EU. Lastly, Instagram users in Europe only need to type in “ticket” to locate a scannable QR code announcing the upcoming launch. However, we are unsure of which EU nations will receive the app on December 14.

Meta has experienced difficulties adhering to the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA). In July, Meta and other major internet companies were named platform gatekeepers, imposing more stringent guidelines on user permission and data security. The business appears to have figured everything out in time for this release, but it’s still unclear if the app will alter to comply with the rules. We will learn next week.

Undoubtedly, Threads has experienced a turbulent year, launching with great enthusiasm in the middle of the X trash fire. However, as soon as users realized there wasn’t much to do on the platform, their interest dropped dramatically. To its credit, Meta has been enhancing the app with features and functions quite rapidly. Among other things, Threads has received updates in the last few months, including searchable subjects, or hashtags, and an edit button that isn’t $8 a month.
