Sony unveiled the LYT-900, their flagship LYTIA mobile camera sensor

It’s been a long time and we have heard a lot about the Sony LYT-900. Thankfully, the new flagship camera sensor by Sony is now official.

It is the company’s most powerful camera sensor for mobile devices

When it comes to the specs of the camera sensor, it is a 1-inch camera sensor with a 1.6um pixel size. It is purportedly an improved model of the Sony IMX989, which has a 1-inch camera sensor and has been a top contender for smartphones since last year.

The company shared the news officially on Weibo. Currently, there are no official details about the new sensor, but at least a part about the new sensor is officially shared by the company. Reportedly, as compared to the Sony LYT-808 and LYT-T808, the new camera sensor is more powerful. The above-mentioned camera sensors have been used by OnePlus in the OnePlus 12 and OnePlus Open. Do note that the two sensors are essentially the same except for the T in the name that specifies it for the foldable smartphones. The Sony LYT-900 boasts enormous pixels in addition to its massive sensor. This is most likely a dual-stacked sensor, similar to the Sony LYT-808 and LYT-T808, given that it is a LYTIA sensor.

The new camera sensor will possibly debut with the OPPO Find X7 Pro

Theoretically, the specs of the new camera sensor are great. Some reports indicate that the Sony LYT-900 will be used in the OPPO Find X7 Pro, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, and the Vivo X100 Pro+. It’s unclear which company will release the device first: Vivo or OPPO, since the Find X7 Pro is expected to debut in Q1 2024 and the reports suggest that the Vivo X200 Pro+ has been postponed until April or May.

The third gadget referred to in relation to this sensor is the Xiaomi 14 Ultra. That phone will probably show sometime around the middle of next year. At least according to the launch of the Xiaomi 13 Ultra. This year’s April saw the release of the Xiaomi 13 Ultra. We’ll have to wait and watch if Xiaomi decides to launch earlier in 2024.
