The upcoming 12-core processor by Qualcomm could be used in Samsung laptops

Laptops and smartphones are powered by different chipsets. Various companies like TSMC, Qualcomm, and others manufacture these chipsets. Reportedly Samsung utilizes the chipsets by Qualcomm as well as MediaTek for its smartphones. However, for laptops, Samsung relies on Qualcomm Snapdragon processors. Just yesterday, Samsung showcased the latest version of the Galaxy Book 2 Pro 360. As per reports, this new Galaxy Book 2 Pro 360 is equipped with the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 chipset. This chipset is believed to be 60% more efficient in GPU performance in contrast to the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 utilized in the Galaxy Book Go 2 5G. in addition to this, more powerful processors by Qualcomm specifically for laptops are in the pipeline.

The Snapdragon Summit was held in November 2022. During the event, Qualcomm showcased the branding of the Oryon processor. Oryon is reportedly the latest series of Qualcomm processors. These chipsets are designed explicitly for powerful devices like laptops and PCs. Recently, WinFuture unveiled some more information about the first and foremost chipset of the series. The new chipset is codenamed ‘Hamoa’. It has 12 CPU cores. Of those 12 cores, eight are tuned for high performance whereas the rest will function as efficiency cores.

According to reports, two versions of this chipset having model numbers SC8380X and SC8380XP are under test by Qualcomm. Well, if we pay attention to the model number we can depict that they are descendants of the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 chipset. Where the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 chipset was presented with the model number SC8280. As per the information sources, the chipset accompanies the CPU cores constructed by Nuvia. These cores were secured by Qualcomm early in 2021. Furthermore, it is accompanied by the Snapdragon X65 5G modem. Therefore, it is capable of providing around 10Gbps download speeds as well as UFS 4.0 storage.

This chipset is based on the 3nm process by TSMC. Thus, indicating that it will provide high performance as well as power efficiency. With all this information, we can expect a new laptop by Samsung to have the Oryon chipset by the end of next year.
