The Xperia 5 series is allegedly being discontinued by Sony

For each year since 2019, Sony has been adding a new member to its Xperia 1, 10 and 5 series. According to reports, the company might debut the Xperia 1 VI (aka as Xperia 1 Mark 6) and the Xperia 10 VI in May. A recent rumor, on the other hand, suggests that Sony might not debut the Xperia 5 VI. Well, it is because the company might be ending the Xperia 5 series. In September, following the debut of the Xperia 1 and Xperia 10 series devices, Sony unveiled the final two incarnations of the Xperia 5 series. Thus, the business still has time to reconsider its decision.

Perhaps the company intends to focus on the Xperia 1 series

In a Weibo post, the tipster Zacbucks mentioned “Xperia 5 series, R.I.P 2024.” No further details or information was shared besides this.

In September 2023, the Xperia 5 V debuted in European market. It was launched in the United States. The company shared that it intends to focus on its flagship Xperia 1 V. for this reason, it won’t be releasing the Xperia 5 V in the North American market this year. Here the question arises whether the company is saving its time and energy for the Xperia 1 series? We will get to know more details with time.

As far as the Xperia 1 series are concerned, some rumors point towards a major redesign for the Xperia 1 VI. The previous models of the Xperia 1 series featured a unique 6.5-inch 4K display (1644 x 3840) with a tall 21:9 aspect ratio. The Xperia 1 VI may attempt to appeal to a wider audience beyond Sony’s professional camera customers, potentially saving expenses in the process. It could arrive with a more traditional design having a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and a degraded 2K panel.
