There may soon be a hardware update for the iPhone’s front and ultrawide cameras
The iPhone 15 series comes with great ultrawide and selfie cameras. However, for several years, the company has not upgraded the camera hardware on iPhones. This could change in the future with the iPhone 16 and iPhone 17 series. Reportedly, the company might upgrade the ultrawide unit of the iPhone 16 Pro and the selfie camera of the iPhone 17.
iPhone 16 Pro might feature a 48MP ultrawide
Ming-Chi Kuo claims that a 48MP 1/2.6-inch sensor with 0.7µm pixel size and 6P lens assembly could be used for the ultrawide unit of the iPhone 16 Pro. Even in low-light conditions, better results with improved details and quality will be received due to a high MP sensor. According to Kuo, the final product would be a 12MP photo, suggesting that Apple will use pixel binning to enhance the quality of its low-light photography.
Since the iPhone 11, the company has been using a 12MP ultrawide camera. A 12MP 1/3.6-inch sensor with a 1µm pixel size and 6P lens assembly is used in the current iPhone 15 Pro. The iPhone 16 reportedly has smaller pixels; however, 1.4µm pixels should be the result of pixel binning. It appears like this upgrade won’t apply to the base model of the iPhone 16 series.
In addition to this, Kuo claims that the iPhone 17 will feature a 24MP selfie camera. it will be a remarkable upgrade to the iPhone 14 and 15 that features a 12MP shooter. The ultrawide settings of Android flagships have been inconsistent, but Apple’s shift to a better resolution ultrawide will establish a new standard that Android phones will have to contend with.
