This is the reason why Netflix is not developing an app for Vision Pro

Previously, we reported that some famous apps like YouTube, Netflix, and Spotify wouldn’t be available with Apple’s upcoming Vision Pro headset. Users will be required to access these apps via the Safari web browser. Earlier this week, Greg Peters, Netflix co-CEO, unveiled that the company has no current plans to introduce a Vision Pro app. In an interview with Stratechery, Peters mentioned that the headset is ‘so subscale.’ According to him, the device is irrelevant to Netflix users.

He added that the company must be careful with its future investments since it can’t invest in areas where there is no certainty about returns. Peters hinted that a potential Vision Pro app is still being considered by Netflix. Regarding Apple, “We’ve always had vigorous discussions as to how we could help each other out,” he remarked. We occasionally come upon a large overlap. We are able to move incredibly fast. It takes slightly longer occasionally.”

Rumors suggest that the company will manufacture a limited number of devices in 2024. The huge price tag of Vision Pro is quite expensive for Apple’s consumers. When pre-orders went live, Apple sold between 160,000 and 180,000 devices, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. The company will only supply about 500,000 units this year. Kuo stated that the Vision Pro is “still a very niche product,” a sentiment that seems to be echoed by several well-known companies that are not developing apps for the gadget despite the early demand.

While developers can easily run iPad apps on the Vision Pro, Netflix has chosen not to enable the Netflix iPad app to be accessible via the headset. Peters did not provide a reason. Rather, users of Netflix will have to use the Vision Pro web browser to access Netflix.
