This year, Apple plans to manufacture 8.5 million OLED iPad Pro models

The Cupertino-based tech giant Apple is all set to refresh its iPad Pro lineup. The new models are expected to arrive this month. Reportedly, the company has placed an order of around 8.5 million OLED display panels from suppliers based in South Korea. These panels will be used for the redesigned iPad Pro models. The redesign will be the largest change to the Pro lineup’s aesthetic since 2018.

Reportedly, the company will debut an 11-inch and a 13-inch iPad Pro model. For the OLED display panels, the company is relying on different suppliers. For instance, the 11-iinch panels will be supplied by Samsung whereas LG will provide the 13-inch panels. Details suggest that in 2024, Samsung will manufacture 4 million units however, LG will manufacture 4.5 million units within the same timeframe implying that the larger model will be marginally more popular.

Industry insiders assert that the two suppliers’ inconsistent production yields and capacities as well as shifts in Apple’s demand estimate for OLED iPad Pro models are the root causes of the division of labor. Reportedly, both suppliers are still adjusting to Apple’s need for new panel technologies. According to rumors, the company intends to offer improved display quality alongside the light weight and thin bezels of iPad Pro.

Perhaps the company might change the number of ordered OLED panels once the initial production is complete. It all depends on the production yield and future demand. According to reports, Apple’s most recent shipment estimate was lower than the 10 million devices that were anticipated for 2024 previous year. In addition to this, there are rumors that the new iPad Pro models will feature 3nm M3 chips and MagSafe charging. They might be equipped with an updated Apple Pencil and a new Magic Keyboard.
