THQ Nordic Releases Playable Demo for the Gothic Remake

Last week, THQ Nordic announced an exciting playable demo for the highly anticipated Gothic remake. This demo offers players a chance to experience the reimagined version of the cult-classic role-playing game firsthand. The demo is now available, but it might not be around for long, so don’t miss out!

The demo introduces an exclusive prologue quest designed specifically for this test version. Players take on the role of Nyras, a newly convicted prisoner, and get to explore the iconic prison colony from the original game for a full day. The events of the prologue take place before the story of the original Gothic 1, giving fans a fresh perspective on the beloved universe.

According to Alkimia Interactive, the developers behind the remake, the demo quest offers about an hour of gameplay. However, players are free to explore at their own pace. Expect plenty of opportunities for conversations with other prisoners and, of course, some combat encounters. The remake boasts vastly improved graphics powered by Unreal Engine 5, revamped controls, and a reworked combat system featuring smoother, more dynamic movements compared to the 2001 original.

If you’re eager to try out the demo, you can download it now on Steam or GOG. The demo includes multiple language options, including German, English, Polish, and Russian voiceovers. For Steam users, there’s even a unique achievement tied to the demo that’s essential for 100% completion of the full game.

The demo was released as part of the Steam Next Fest 2025, running until March 3, 2025. It’s unclear if the demo will remain available after the event, as the developers have yet to decide. If you’re excited to step into the world of the Gothic remake, now is the perfect time to dive in!
