Threads Introduces Markup Tool for Creative Post Sharing

Threads is rolling out a new feature that makes sharing posts more interactive and fun. The app now includes a “markup” tool, allowing users to annotate posts they want to reshare. Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, shared the update in a post.
The markup feature appears in the menu for quoting and reposting. Instead of simply quoting a post, it opens an editing tool where you can add highlights, arrows, or doodles directly on a screenshot of the post. Mosseri explained that the feature is designed “so you can add your creative take” to posts, although the tools are currently limited to yellow highlights and red arrows or doodles. He also teased that “more to come soon” from Meta is on the way.
A Threads spokesperson confirmed that, like quote posts, the original user will be notified if their post is marked up. Additionally, users can disable markups by adjusting the “who can reply and quote” setting on their posts.
Threads is also officially launching two other previously previewed features: post scheduling and analytics. These updates are especially useful for brands, creators, and professionals who need more advanced tools to manage their presence on the platform. As Meta hints at introducing ads to Threads by early 2025, these features could become even more valuable.
