Threads is now making tags and teases on trending topics available for users in Australia

Last month, an employee of Threads released a screenshot of the app’s trending topics function, which the business had never disclosed. Although trending topics are not yet available on Threads, the site is now handing out tags, rather than hashtags, to Australian users in anticipation of trending topic offerings.

CEO of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg, and Instagram, Adam Mosseri, both shared the news. The executives stated that the company is now testing a feature in the Threads app called tags. Despite sounding similar to hashtags, this operates somewhat differently.

This is how tags function on Threads

The primary distinction is that Meta’s Instagram and other social networks no longer employ the “#” symbol, which is now commonplace on many other networks. Alternatively, the Threads app will convert that word or phrase into an interactive tag; the user just needs to hit the tag button. Tapping on a tag allows users to find additional posts that have the same tag.

In contrast to other social networks, just one tag may be added to a post. The maximum character count for a tag is similarly limited, although it’s not terribly small. It’s interesting to note that the tag feature also attests to Threads‘ efforts to incorporate hot subjects. This is since Threads proposes popular tags as you type in a tag and even displays the quantity of posts associated with that tag, which resembles the leaked screenshot of Threads’ trending themes.

The most popular tags in the program will presumably be found using the tags, and threads will list them in a new trending topics area. Regretfully, the feature is currently exclusive to Australia, but in the upcoming weeks, it should gradually be made available in other nations as well.

An upgrade to Threads earlier this week allowed users to cancel their accounts without ever leaving Instagram. Users could choose not to have their posts appear as suggestions on Facebook and Instagram with the same upgrade.
