To Install Windows 11 You Must Have A WebCam

Can your device be upgraded to Windows 11 system? Microsoft has released minimum system requirements for Windows 11, including Secure Boot and TPM 2.0, which can be bypassed at present. However, there is also a requirement for a webcam hidden in Microsoft’s official support document.

Both front and rear webcams are currently optional. However, Microsoft added that all devices (except desktop computers) are required to have a forward webcam. This hidden requirement will take effect on January 1, 2023, and should force device manufacturers to add webcams to devices such as laptops and tablets.

In the supporting document, Microsoft also made requirements for the webcam, requiring high-definition (HD) resolution or higher. HD here refers to 720p, the resolution is 1280 x 720, and the aspect ratio is 1:1. In addition, it also needs to support automatic white balance and automatic exposure.

Finally, Microsoft has also established some rules for devices that will be equipped with dedicated camera buttons. The Redmond giant pointed out that the camera button should be able to wake up the device when needed. However, the company gives manufacturers the freedom to include a dual-action camera or a single-action camera.
