Toyota Solid-State Batteries To Start Production In 2027

Toyota has announced a significant breakthrough in the development and production of solid-state batteries, showcasing a prototype that offers a range of up to 1200 kilometers and a charging time of only ten minutes.

The automaker recently revealed its electric strategy and upcoming models in June after years of hesitation. Now it becomes evident that Toyota’s delay was due to waiting for this technological breakthrough. According to the Financial Times, Toyota plans to start implementing the new technology in 2027.

Toyota Announces Solid State Batteries

The company claims to have simplified the production process for solid-state battery materials, leading to a remarkable reduction in charging time and increased driving range. Keiji Kaita, President of Toyota Research and Development Center, stated that their goal is to significantly reduce the size, weight, and cost of both liquid and solid-state batteries, aiming to cut these factors in half.

Toyota has also made advancements in battery longevity, and they believe they can manufacture a solid-state battery with a range of 1,200 kilometers that can be fully charged in under ten minutes. Moreover, this battery technology is expected to be more straightforward to produce compared to conventional lithium-ion batteries.

More Powerful And Long Lasting

Although specific details about the new battery are not yet disclosed, Toyota is determined to become a world leader in energy-efficient battery electric cars with the next generation of vehicles. They aim to provide 1.7 million out of a total of 3.5 million units from their BEV Factory by 2030. Toyota envisions a battery-powered electric vehicle that will captivate customers worldwide.
