The news was that Skype has introduced the feature to transfer money via the app. Now WhatsApp has introduced the similar payment feature. So now users would be able to send and receive money directly on WhatsApp.
There were rumors that WhatsApp is operating on a Unified Payments Interface and might launch payment feature in India by fall. Now reports show that the feature has leaked before it was planned. It is now part of 2.17.295 beta version of the Android app.
Point to be noted is that at the moment the feature is just in beta version and actual payment feature would launch soon in upcoming updates. WhatsApp officials have not said anything about these features, not even making any comments on when and in which parts of the world this feature is to be launched.
WhatsApp has around 1 billion users and now it is introducing new different features to attract more users and retain the previous ones. Payment feature is a step further towards ensuring that. Let’s see whether WhatsApp users use the payment feature or keep relying on conventional methods.
