TSMC will liekly manufacture more Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chips compared to Samsung owing to its high yield rates

Most tech companies have collaborated with one another for a long. One such example is the association between Qualcomm, Samsung, and TSMC. Qualcomm is well-known for its powerful and efficient chipsets. Similar is the case with Samsung and TSMC. Most companies are looking towards Qualcomm for the flagship as well as other chipsets. To cater to the demands and requirements of smartphone companies, Qualcomm might source the manufacturing of Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chips to Samsung and TSMC. Given this news, it is anticipated that TSMC might receive a larger share of orders owing to its high yield rate.

Currently, the yield rate from a 3nm GAA wafer is around 60-70%. However, TSMC is capable of managing it at around 75-80% per single wafer. If this news is correct, then it appears like that the tech giants Apple and Qualcomm won’t necessarily face delivery issues concerning their next-gen chipsets i.e., Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and A17 Bionic chips. Formerly, the South Korean tech firm Samsung suffered terrible yield rates of around 20%. It was before the company collaborated with the US company Silicon Frontline Technology.

The major concern for Qualcomm and other chip manufacturing companies is that they are paid per wafer. Therefore, low yields of chips indicate huge prices for a chipset, particularly for the end user i.e., the smartphone companies. This in turn results in high market prices for the products. Given the current situation of the economy worldwide, a price hike won’t benefit anyone in the long run.
