Royal Mail has seen a shift in their corporate social responsibility and took an initiative to actively participate in environment-friendly business. Currently, the company cannot be classed as environment-friendly with a huge number of vehicles on the road and large logistics network. But the national logistics company is now heading towards all-electric vans to be the part of their logistics fleet in the next few years.
Royal Mail has started a new trial today with fully electric vans from Oxfordshire-based automaker “Arrival”. The trial begins with nine commercial Vans/trucks of different sizes within the range of 100 miles will be the part of operations from Royal Mail’s Central London depot today. The electric vehicles would be carrying post and parcels to deliver them to other parts of the city and surrounding area within 100 miles.

The electric vans produced by Arrival is the first batch of the electric production line in the Arrival’s new Banbury factory, the factory has a capacity to produce 50,000 Electric vehicles per year. Arrival used to provide logistic support to Formula E and supplied electric innards to Autonomous racing series Roborace—according to engadget.
Arrival is not the first company to partner with Royal Mail, previously Royal Mail had a deal with Peugeot to buy 100 all-electric vans, a successful trial with that batch was completed in February and the vans are set to hit the roads by December this year.
Royal Mail has also installed charging points for all-electric vehicles at the Royal Mail delivery offices across the UK to keep the fleet alive all the time.
