Vivo Announced its 3 Years Upgrade Program for a Series of Devices

After Samsung and HMD Global, Vivo has shared its 3 years of Android OS updates for many of its smartphones. The company plans an updated journey for three years for several X series models.

Talking to the fans, Yujian Shi, SVP and CTO at Vivo, said recently:

“Featuring to of the line hardware, the X series flagship phones are built to last – and we want to make sure that our customers get software support that lives up to their expectations. We always innovate with the user in mind. With this pledge, we are making a promise to our customers that they will be able to enjoy a premium smartphone experience for an extended period and continue to benefit from the latest software features.”

The company shared its 3 years plan for the European, Australian, and Indian markets. This plan is specifically designed for its Vivo X series devices launched after July 2021. It excludes all existing X series models. However, the company will still push security updates to older X series devices, which would be different from its 3-years plan.

We also know that Vivo has had a poor track record of pushing OS and security updates. But this new plan from the company is likely to overcome the earlier weakness.

It is pertinent to mention that Vivo was the first OEM to ship an Android 11 out of the box. It is also worth mentioning that Vivo’s sister company OPPO had also announced a similar Android OS upgrade program earlier this month. OPPO’s program is designed only for the Find X3 series.
