Since tablets and smartphones are now the main gaming devices for a lot of people and we’ve seen major franchises from the gaming world being released for iOS as well as Android. This week, the game publisher Blizzard has confirmed that they are developing a brand new Warcraft game that will be available on mobile devices.
The confirmation was announced during the financial report for Q4 of 2021 by Activision Blizzard, which is currently in the process of being bought by Microsoft. As reported by IGN the company announced it is planning to launch Warcraft to mobile gamers at some point in the next year. While Blizzard has previously stated that it was working on a Warcraft smartphone game is being developed it was the first occasion that the company made public the 2022 release date.
In its quarter-end earnings report, Blizzard said that it is “planning substantial new content for the Warcraft franchise in 2022, including new experiences in World of Warcraft and Hearthstone, and getting all-new mobile Warcraft content into players’ hands for the first time.”
Although, with confirmation that Warcraft will be available on mobile platforms, there aren’t additional details regarding the game, like the genre, or which aspects from Warcraft will be included. Warcraft universe will it include. However, this is good news for players of the well-known MMORPG game.
Rumors suggest that Blizzard is developing an AR-based game, similar to Pokemon GO. However, Blizzard is also developing “multiple Warcraft mobile experiences,” therefore the AR game may be one of the possibilities. Apart from Warcraft Diablo, a Diablo: Immortal mobile-based game is also planned for the first quarter of 2022.
